Squash ‘Car’ Races – Get Ready To Race!
This Thanksgiving Long Weekend, let’s have some fun with overgrown, ginormous, stringy summer squash before they hit the compost heap.
Teams can decorate a zucchini or cucumber, add a set of wheels and watch it go reeling down our race track.
Let’s support an important prairie charity (The Leftovers Foundation) while having a blast!
STEPS TO RACE:
1) Register at our Squash Decoration Station on the south side of our canopy. The entry fee to run a zucchini or cucumber car in our races is Pay-What-You-Can, with a suggested donation of $10, where all proceeds go to The Leftovers Foundation, a charity diverting good food to those who need it most. Once registered, you’ll receive a qualifying # to pin to your car.
2) Bring or choose a zucchini to race (from your home garden, bought from a vendor here, or pick one from our ‘spare parts’ pile)
3) Affix our wheels to it (you can choose wooden, or plastic sets) and pin on your number. You must use our wheels, with an axle base of 3 or 5 inches.
4) Then, decorate your car using our supplies. Well have paint, tape, ribbon, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, paper and pom poms to use. Think outside the box! *Note, no electronic parts are permitted, no explosives or flammable stuff, please!
5) At your timeslot (within the hour of your registration), send your masterpiece zooming down our custom ramp and celebrate if you win! There are 2 ways to win: best decorated and longest/fastest run time. Judges are guests and not paid.
RACE TIMES:
We’ll hold zucchini races on the hour at 11 am, 12 noon and 1 pm at 3514 Pembina Highway on October 12, 2024. This is a Rain or Shine event! For questions, contact info@stnorbertfarmersmarket.ca
