Growing for the Future at Le Marché St. Norbert Farmers’ Market

The St. Norbert Farmers’ Market is Manitoba’s largest and best loved outdoor farmers’ market, enjoyed by visitors from near and far. To enhance the experience for our visitors, we have embarked on a 10 year improvement and development plan. We’re excited to say that with the help of government and community partners, we have completed Phase One and Phase Two of this project.

Phase One

Elements in the first phase included many elements to create a more enjoyable marketplace, including: improved drainage over our whole site (yes, you can finally leave your rubber boots at home!); paved entrances and smoother walkways; nicer seating areas; improved vendor spaces; better pedestrian and vehicle circulation; trees and bio swales; and an orchard in the Community Garden to the south of the market. Over $16,000 in new trees have been planted, thanks to a grant from Manitoba Hydro.

Phase Two

In July of 2014, through the Canada-Manitoba Infrastructure program, the province announced funding to build permanent washrooms on the site. The washrooms are now completed and will be open for 2016.. Other funders for that project include the Winnipeg Foundation and the St. Norbert Foundation.

Phase Three

Most of the funding is now in place for Phase Three of our project, which is a new canopy structure. We hope to complete this project by the spring of 2017. The new canopies will include a 4-season canopy that will allow us to run our new Winter Market on our own site!
