The St. Norbert Farmers’ Market is Manitoba’s largest and best loved outdoor farmers’ market, enjoyed by visitors from near and far. To enhance the experience for our visitors, we have embarked on a 10 year improvement and development plan. We’re excited to say that with the help of government and community partners, we have completed Phase One and Phase Two of this project, and will complete the third and final phase this fall.
The first phase included many elements to create a more enjoyable marketplace, including: improved drainage over our whole site (yes, you can finally leave your rubber boots at home!); paved entrances and smoother walkways; nicer seating areas; improved vendor spaces; better pedestrian and vehicle circulation; trees and bio swales; and an orchard in the Community Garden to the south of the market. Over $16,000 in new trees have been planted, thanks to a grant from Manitoba Hydro.
In July of 2014, through the Canada-Manitoba Infrastructure program, the province announced funding to build permanent washrooms on the site. The washrooms, designed to fit into an up-cycled storage container, are a wonderful addition to a site that relied on porta potties for many years.. Other funders for that project include the Winnipeg Foundation and the St. Norbert Foundation.
(l-r) City Councillor, Winnipeg South/St. Norbert Janice Lukes; SNFM Board President Sandy Fox; MLA St. Norbert Dave Goudreau; MP Winnipeg South Terry Duguid; SNFM Board President Bruce Berry cut the toilet paper ribbon on the new washrooms
Phase Three of our project, which is a new canopy structure, began construction in November 2017. The new structure includes a 4-season canopy that is going to allow us to run our new Winter Market on our own site!
We’re very thankful for our funders and supporters:
